Ground Investigation
IGSL is highly experienced at managing, executing and delivering ground investigation projects. Projects of up to €3M have been successfully completed.
We offer a wide range of sampling and associated field testing techniques, including:
- Cable percussion boring
- Rotary core drilling
- Groundwater monitoring wells
- Dynamic probing
- Window sampling
- Trial pitting
- Rock excavation trials
- Slit trenching
- Packer permeability testing
- Pump testing
- Soakaway testing
- Shear vane testing
- Gas monitoring & sampling
- Dando 2000
- Dando 3000
- Knebel
- Casagrande
- Terrier rigs
Our rotary capability includes specialist coring in boulder clay and variably weathered bedrock units using Geobor sampling methods. This system utilizes polymer gel flush with semi rigid core liner and produces 102mm diameter cores. Geobor coring has proven to be extremely successful in achieving high quality samples in boulder clay deposits.
Recently completed and current projects where Geobor has been used include Metro North, DART Interconnector, Indaver Duleek and various karst limestone sites (e.g. N21 Tralee Bypass, Amgen Biopharma Carrigtohill, IDA sites Dungarvan).
We operate three dynamic probing and window sampling rigs (Terrier 2000) and these are particularly suitable for shallow foundation assessment, subsidence investigations, installing groundwater and gas standpipes and inclinometers. Slit trenches are excavated to establish utility ducts in conjunction with ground probing radar.
We employ traffic management systems for works on roads and bridges in accordance with Department of Transport, Chapter 8 (Temporary Traffic Measures and Signs for Roadworks, 2006). Trial pits are excavated to sample and classify upper deposits. Where shallow rock is suspected (e.g. basements and road cuttings) rock excavation trials are performed with tracked excavators and hydraulic breakers.
Permeability, soakaway and pump tests are undertaken in line with BS 5930 and BRE Digest 365. Packer tests are performed in core drillholes to determine Lugeon Values and watertighness of rock masses.
