Research & Publications

IGSL has developed a long-standing relationship with third level institutions, particularly Carlow IT, University of Portsmouth and UCD. Our directors have supervised a number of final year projects, master dissertations and geotechnical research.

We have nurtured close ties with the Engineering Geology division in Portsmouth University, where a number of our staff have attended the undergraduate degree course in engineering geology & geotechnics and masters courses. Likewise, we have developed a close link with the civil engineering department in Carlow IT where the 5 year honours degree programme has a large emphasis on geotechnics.

We have recruited a number of graduates from both Portsmouth University and Carlow IT and they have proven to be first class additions. This has been reciprocated with visiting lectures by our principal engineering staff and assisting students with projects and dissertations. Our aim is to continue to develop these links and to actively pursue practical research in the geotechnical field.

A number of our directors (Martin Grace, Brian Green & Paul Quigley) have been closely involved with the Geotechnical Society of Ireland (GSI) since its inception. Each has participated as a committee member of the GSI and played a key role in the 1987 ISSM Dublin conference and in the preparation of the IEI Specification for Ground Investigation in Ireland (2006).
